Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter on Mental Health in America / Local Funding Cuts Affect Mental Health Services
First Lady Rosalynn Carter has been on a mission to increase awareness of the causes and treatments of mental illness throughout her time in public service.
Today Steve Kraske talks with Carter about her new book, Within Our Reach: Ending the Mental Health Crisis, in which she highlights the failures of our current health care system as it relates to mental illness, and proposes her own solutions to the problem.
In the second half of the program we speak with David Wiebe, executive director of the Johnson County Mental Health Center and William Kyles, CEO of Comprehensive Mental Health Services about how state funding cuts have affected the services they provide to the public.
