Central Standard - 7/28/2011 Sci-fi's Theodore Sturgeon / Boulevard's John McDonald | ||||||||||||||
|
Let's learn about an influential figure from the golden age of sci-fi and 60's counterculture -- Theodore Sturgeon. Among his many accomplishments includes shared credit with Leonard Nimoy for the infamous Star Trekism "live long and prosper" as well as coining Sturgeon's Law, which states that "90 percent of everything is crap." We'll learn what stories lurk in a collection of his private letters and manuscripts that have been recently donated to the University of Kansas. Then, later in the hour... If you want to brew your own beer, there are kits you can order online and endless YouTube videos with instructions. But if you want to brew your own craft brewery, and become the largest specialty brewer in the Midwest, that's gonna require a lot more than a 5 gallon bucket and a siphon. We'll ask the company's founder John McDonald to share the story of Boulevard. GUESTS: James Gunn, The Center for the Study of Science Fiction at KU Elspeth Healey, Special Collections Librarian Noël Sturgeon, Theodore Sturgeon Trust John McDonald, Boulevard
