Former HHS Secretary Donna Shalala / White House Quests for Health Reform over the Decades

Steve Kraske talks with Donna Shalala, now President of the University of Miami and this year's Dole Leadership Prize from the Dole Institute of Politics at the University of Kansas. Shalala compares the current quest to reform health insurance to that of the Clinton years, and talk about the challenges the nation faces in the months ahead.

In the second half of the program we look back at other administrations and their attempts to reform health insurance. Brown University political science professor and chair James Morone talks about the book co-authored with David Blumenthal titled The Heart of Power: Health and Politics in the Oval Office. Morone explains how presidents over the past three quarters of a century have attempted to form and change health insurance policy - most of who met with failure.
